Relief Society Lesson for March 13th

The lesson this past Sunday was given by Aimee Jorgensen. The lesson title was "Service."

Aimee had each of us think and then write down the ways that people have served US INDIVIDUALLY or served our FAMILY within the last month. She said the longer you sit and think about it the longer your list will grow. Many sisters shared acts of service given to them.

We should have gratitude and recognize when people do nice things for us.

When we give service to others, we are acting as the Savior would act, and doing as the Savior would do.

Aimee reminded us that LOVE is a choice.

Next, Aimee had us write of list of people that we WANT to serve.

She shared an experience that happened recently to her. She was at the grocery store buying some granola bars, because she was CRAVING them. As she left the parking lot, she noticed a man holding a sign - signifying that he wanted money or food - and she drove past him. As she drove on, she had the impression that she needed to stop and give him something. She did not have any money, just granola bars. She turned around and drove back to him. She told the man that she did not have any money, but she would share some of her granola bars. He smiled, and she noticed he did not have any teeth, which made her feel bad, because it would be hard to chew on the granola bars. She gave half of the box to him, and then drove away. As she looked in her rearview mirror, she noticed that the man had quickly torn off the wrapper and was already eating the granola bars. She realized that he was truly hungry, and was so thankful that she followed the prompting she received to serve him.

We don't realize a lot of times what a great blessing we can be to others' lives.

Visiting Teaching is a huge calling and a service to the sisters that we teach. We can be there for when those sisters need us.

When we willingly serve others in the spirit of love, we become more like Christ.

Aimee then challenged each of us to review the list of people we want to serve, and then to serve someone this week!
What a fabulous lesson and example of service! Thanks Aimee!
